Bryan W. Carpenter's path into motion pictures wasn't the conventional one. Before moving into film full-time, his career spanned more than two decades in private contracting, professional firearms and tactical instruction, security operations, and specialized fieldwork conducted around the world — including work alongside special operations personnel and military and government professionals from multiple countries, often in environments where planning, logistics, judgment, and adaptability weren't optional.

That world eventually intersected with motion-picture production. An assignment tied to a major film in 2006 opened the door, leading in 2014 to the founding of Dark Thirty Film Services. One capability led to another: Dark Thirty grew into a broader production-services operation, which in turn grew into the network of companies now operating under 13 South Productions.

Some of that earlier career followed him into public view on its own. Over the years, Carpenter has been connected to real-world events significant enough that others chronicled them — in books, documentaries, and, on more than one occasion, feature films — the kind of history most people only encounter secondhand, from the outside of a theater seat. It's not something he leads with. But it's a large part of why productions bring him in when a project needs more than research: the difference between describing an environment on the page and having actually stood in one.

Today, Carpenter works as a producer and director, bringing his operational-planning background, technical knowledge, logistics experience, and specialized fieldwork to productions whenever the story calls for it. The environments have changed. The fundamentals haven't: understand the objective, build the right team, know your resources, adapt when the plan changes, and finish what you started.

Her background in private contracting, administration, and organizational management puts her at the center of the business infrastructure behind the network — budgets, documentation, scheduling, coordination, and personnel: the countless details that determine whether a great idea actually becomes a delivered production.

Development never runs short on ideas. Dawn has a particular talent for turning them into lists, deadlines, calls, and completed work. Around the office, she goes by Van — and when Van says it's handled, the team moves on to the next problem.

Dr. Spencer Mills is an emergency veterinarian, producer, and lifelong mechanical problem-solver whose scientific training brings an unusual analytical lens to production. Medicine trains you to evaluate incomplete information, make decisions under pressure, and recognize that complex systems rarely fail for just one reason — skills that translate directly to filmmaking.

Spencer has become integral to 13 South Productions from a producing standpoint, bridging the gap between the creative vision and the practical logistics required to execute it. On set, that means flagging what needs attention early, connecting the right people, and keeping the operation moving before small issues compound into schedule problems. His clinical and scientific background is especially valuable on documentary, medical, animal-centric, and technically complex material — matched by a lifelong interest in machinery, vehicles, fabrication, and figuring out why something everyone else wrote off probably isn't actually broken.

Production needs people who move comfortably between creative thinking and practical problem-solving. Spencer does both.

A trusted teammate of Bryan since 2006, she now brings that same discipline to 13 South Productions, keeping crews and logistics on target. Equally at home sharing a drink or navigating the jungle, she's the definition of someone you want on your side.

Trust isn't handed out in the operations community. It's earned, one assignment at a time, in conditions where there's no room for second chances. Nadia Novak earned it early. She has worked alongside Bryan since 2001, supporting multiple operations where preparation, focus, and quiet competence were the only things standing between a plan and a problem.

She's the kind of teammate who sees the whole board: the moving pieces, the timelines, the things that can go wrong, and how to make sure they don't. That mindset doesn't retire when the mission changes. When Bryan moved into film and other ventures, Nadia was one of the first people he asked to stay on. She now works with the team remotely, bringing the same steady judgment and attention to detail to production and planning that she once brought to the field. Easy after the clock, all business on it.

It also doesn't hurt that she's from Romania, a fact Bryan never lets go unmentioned. No one is claiming she has a direct line to a certain famous count from Transylvania, but a cousin or two wouldn't surprise anyone.
